Aged Finish starts!!

Hello.
Please be announced that we are starting the Aged Finish as new service.
We are able to realize this cool design thanks to join our new staff Eliezer Tryee has has worked at Fender Custom Shop, Castedosa Guitar, and other instrument related places in Japan.
※Please call him “L san” when you meet him at our factory or exhibition.
This time, we will introduce you the features and points of Attention about Aged Finish.
1.What’s Aged Finish?
A cool vintage guitar with scratches and peeling paint that has a taste of years of playing.
The Aged Finish allows you to experience this design that change over time in a newly completed instrument from the very beginning.
The guitar craftsman’s sense will reproduce the feeling of the paint peeling off as it is rubbed by picking or as the elbow and waist contours repeatedly hit the body.
In addition to the body and neck, the pickguard can be faded and the hardware can be made to look as if it has already been used.
2.Painting
In case of Sago Sonia multilayered,
First, warp painting(Color : Volcano) is applied as the under color.
In warp painting, urethane is first sprayed as a base coat, and then the color (red, yellow, etc. in the case of Volcano) is sprayed.
Apply the crumpled wrap, spray the color (red/yellow) with metallic again, and then fill the unevenness of the wrap with urethane.
Depending on how the wrap is applied and how the unevenness is shaved, designs appear randomly.
From here, spray white, the color of this top surface, and clear lacquer.
Vintage umber is sprayed to further express the burn, and finally clear lacquer is sprayed.
Therefore, the multilayers are quite thick in the coating and heavy in the paint.
3.Whether Check
Random cracks in the lacquer created by the expansion and contraction of the paint over time.
To reproduce this, the painted surface is first heated with a burner to break up the clear lacquer that was sprayed in two separate shots.
And cooling sprey makes this crack due to rapid rigidity.
The back of Sonia’s neck was not burned, only cooling spray is used to moderate the cracking.
On the other hand, the back of the head is firmly cracked as a design feature.
They also have a large refrigerator for checkering in some places.
Also weather checks are transparent, but in Sonia, the cracks are stained black, so that the cracks can be seen from a distance.
Even if the substrate is urethane or lacquer, there is a difference in checking, and Sago will continue to research based on his experience.
4.Aged Finish
The aged processing shows the craftsman’s sense of style the most.
Using a knife, the design is applied to the peeling paint and scratches.
The wood surfaces with elbow-conders and dents are exposed, and the darker areas are to give them a used look.
The pickgaurd of white 3P is also painted vintage amber same as body to create vintage taste.
Along with the body and neck, hardware parts such as pegs and bridge are also aged.
It is called barrel polishing, and the hardware is placed in this barrel-shaped machine with abrasive stones called media.
Mixed with polishing stones, the polishing process dulls the parts and creates a vintage guitar-like finish.
As final process, we will polish the body and pickguard by sponge to remove brilliance of the new instruments.
And there are different levels of aged processing, and prices are also according.
We will update the information when the detail is decided.
5.To realize your request in custom order
The aged processing is an accidental design that includes weather checks, intentional scratches and peeling paint.
Please instruct with picture to realize your request in custom order as we can.

6.Attention
When we take your guitar or bass back to you for refinishing, we will remove the original color and repaint it before applying the aged processing.
For instruments with large dents or scratches, or solid colors with no visible grain, it may be difficult to achieve the desired color and paint depending on the condition of the wood from which the paint was removed.
Then, we will check the condition of the wood by picture with you and consult with you as we do.

7.After talk

Before he came, Sago did not receive the request of Aged Processing until then beause our basic concept was to product the new guitar with shiny and clean.
