Hello.

We are pleased to announce our new product “Seed Dullahan” that is the artist model of Bassist: MINA.
Her popularity is so popular not limited to Japan, and she has fans over the world.

We will explain this bass as under.

1.What’s Seed Dullahan?

Seed is our brand for the student of the guitar and bass.
It has idea from the artists that use our instruments.

The design & specification are directed by the artists.
It is manufactured in quantity at our trusted factory in Indonesia.

It reached the reasonable price.
After the products are arrived at our factory, our staffs inspect one at a time.

Dullahan is the artist model based on Sago’s Concept Model:Defi, designed to MINA’s taste.
MINA has been played Sago Basses for a long time Sago Dullahan is her iconic Bass.

The austere look of the dark green with gold parts and the heart on the body is impressive, isn’t it?

This heart is based on MINA’s original drawing, cut out of cutting sheet and painted on for the Sago ver. and we have faithfully reproduced this design for Seed Dullahan as well.

2.What’s Dullahan?

Dullahan is the artist model based on Sago’s Concept Model:Defi, designed to MINA’s taste.

First, the Defi has no pickguard,

whereas the Dullahan has a pickguard.
The pickguard gives a casual impression.

Next is the joint that joins the body to the neck, whereas the Defi is a through neck,

Dullahan is a four-point bolt-on.

Bolt-on joint is easier for maintainance than through neck because it is possible to disassemble body and neck.

Also, the through-neck has a longer sustain because the neck material is extended all the way to the body end, but the bolt-on has a sound with a firm attack that is unique to bolt-ons, although the sustain is not as strong as that of a through-neck.

MINA usually plays fast phrase by slap, so bolt-on is more effecvive.

And the scale that means the length from nut to bridge, Defi is 33 inch that is called medium scale.

Dullahan is 34 inch (864mm, long scale) that is standard of electric bass.

The jack position of Defi is body side, Dullahan is body top.

The design of the head is intended to increase Low-B tension on Defi’s 5 & 6 string models, but she liked the look of the head so much that we have adopted it for Dullahan as well.

3.Wood Material

The selection of wood material for electric guitar and bass is to be base of sound character.
In order to achieve the ideal sound, wood material should be selected carefully.

Basically the same selection as Sago Dullahan, body material is alder.
It is straightforward and has the bass sound necessary for bass.

The neck and fingerboard material is maple.

The maple of the neck is 3P (Three ply) and the wood is laminated.

The head is angled, and since a one-piece neck would be a little too strong, a three-ply construction was used to increase the rigidity of the neck.

By the way, in Sago ver., we made it five ply with walnut between maple, which is not only stronger but also cool as a design!

The neck shape is a slender C shape similar to that of a Jazz bass, making it easy to play for those who are just starting on the bass.

Fingerboard of maple sound brightly and you can listen bass line clearly so it is standard for fingerboard.
There are no position marks on the fingerboard surface, which MINA was particular.

4.Pickups

The pickups are the parts like microphone that picks up the vibration of the guitar strings and transduce to electrical signal.

Pickups are one of the factor of the bass sound.
There are various style for example single coil, humbacker and etc..
The sound is also changed due to the wire of the coil, pole piece, winding coil and its number of turns.

To be the requested bass sound after completion of the bass,
the first thing to consider is replacement of the pickups.
So it is an important part.

Dullahan has two pickups called PJ type.
“P” pickup (L(x) Lite P4) is mounted on neck side and “J” pickup (L(x) Lite JB4) is mounted bright side.

The “P” pickup has a thick bass like a precision bass, a bass like sound that supports the ensemble.
The “J” pickup has a clean sound with fast response and easy to understand bass phrases.

The mixed sound of the “P” and “J” pickups combines the best of both worlds, resulting in a fat sound with good response.

The unique undulation of the PJ when sliding to the high frets is a characteristic of the Dullahan sound.
A wide range of sound creation is possible with a single instrument.

The pickups are also reproduced based on the Sago ver. recipe.

5.Controls

The controls are as under.

・Master volume to adjust the total volume of the sound.
・Balancer to adjust the balance of the two pickups volume.
・Tone to adjust the high tone.
・Series / Parallel Switch to change the way the two pickups are wired

In JazzBass, it is a little difficult to adjust the volume keeping same tone because it is necessary to adjust the 2 volume controls.
In Dullahan, you can control your favorite pickup balance by Balancer and adjust total volume by Master Volume.

And you can switch between 2 pickups in series or parallel by one touch.
In series, those two pickups sound like humbacker that sound a little louder than in parallel so it is recommended in lead playing and we will explain in detail.

When switching from Parallel to Series, the bass sound is stroger and high tone is a little softer than Parallel.

Our impression, “PJ sound” in Parallel, the sound is fast like “JazzBass” and in Series the sound is fat with strong low tone like p”Precision Bass”.

So we recommend playing by pick because it is possible to sound low strong and decrise attack.
Switching changes not only volume but also sound charactor.

It is rare for a PJ type to have a Series / Parallel Switch, and we believe that this will allow you to create new sounds.

※MINA plays Passive ,so Seed Dullahan is also passive. It does not have 2 band EQ(Trebre / Bass) to be reasonable price.

6.After Talk

Dullahan is popular in custom order of Sago.
The small, slender body line and light overall weight make it easy to handle for women and petite people.
